How do I get my software to use it?

If you're a SaaS company, or are using your own custom software, our Tech Services department will show you how to connect via our API which can be called from PHP, Python, Java and C# among others,  If you're using a third party desktop scraping package, you configure your software to use a Proxy Server, and enter the settings we send you in your Welcome Email.  If your software doesn't have these settings, you set it in Internet Explorer instead, and MS Windows then tells your software to use the Proxy Server Cloud that way.


How fast can I really send my queries?

The Proxy Server Cloud is designed to accept 600QPM.  However you may not necessarily always be able to achieve these speeds due to limitations of your software or computer or network.  Depending on your target site(s), in coordination with our Tech Services department, you may be able to query faster.


How does the pricing work?

Pricing works on a Pay As You Go "metered" principle, buying packages of 5 million GETs at a time.  On our SmallBiz Plans, with the help of our Tech Services department, you estimate the number of GET Requests you're likely to do in a month and sign up for the appropriate fixed monthly fee plan.  Unused GET Requests are NOT carried over to the next month.


What constitutes a "GET Request"?

When your web browser (or automated software) sends a request to website to display a page, that page is likely to contain multiple elements, eg graphics, JavaScript and other files.  To display or interpret each of those files requires a separate GET, POST*, or CONNECTION* Request. A typical web page therefore could need anything between 5 and 50 Requests.  We automatically exclude easily identifiable graphics and JavaScript from the counts.  Also some scraping software is designed to exclude these kinds of extraneous files too.  Hence you might find that a typical web page consumes perhaps 5 to 15 GET Requests on your account.  You must take a Free Trial first so you can get an idea of what your actual average GET usage would be like, so you can estimate how long each package of 5 million GET Requests will last you (or so that you can sign up for the correct fixed monthly fee SmallBiz plan).

* POST and CONNECTION Requests count toward your GET Request limit as they are still Requests that must be anonymized by our service.


How do I know how much I'm using during the month?

You will receive a daily report by email with your usage.  You can also check your usage anytime by logging into your Customer Portal account.


Does the Proxy Server Cloud work with Google and other Search Engines?

No.  Instead we recommend the Big-G Stealth Extractor which is optimized for Google and Bing and works very effectively using our own proprietary technology.


Why do you charge different rates for GETs to Search Engines?

Many web pages contain internal links to scripts on Google, Bing, Yahoo or other search engine domains.  So even if you're not scraping search engines directly, your routine scraping will likely result in GETs to search engine domains.  As major search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo limit the number and speed of requests you can send from an IP address, the cost of servicing these requests is much higher.


Which countries is the Proxy Server Cloud available in?

At the moment, our main Proxy Server Clouds are available in the United States only.  We have a smaller UK Proxy Server Cloud available on a custom quote, depending on your needs.
